Christmas decorations don't have to be round, they come in all shapes and sizes. Some Countries already have a tradition of hanging lollies (candies) in their Christmas tree. This was, originally, done by tying a piece of string around the lollie (candy) and tying it to the Christmas tree (this took a long time to do but of course was always appreciated by those who ate those lollies).
